Day Event Significance Contribution by us
2 February World Wetland Day In the year 1971, a convention was held in the Iranian city of Ramsar to espouse the importance of Wetlands and steps to conserve them. Our ever-increasing numbers means that our precious water sources such as wetlands are being shrunk in size to fit needs of housing and industries. These being very imporant in ground-water storage and water retention, this day should be used to high-light the importance of wetlands and chalk our ways to conserve them. Local events should be held to make people aware.
21 March World Forest Day About 23% of total land area of India is under some or the other kind of forest. Of this .35% was lost every year between 1990 and 2010 but overall there was a gain close to 7%! In the same time. With rapid economic development comes the spectre of increased carbon in the environment which affects life like nothing else. The only solution? Tree cover ie forests. India’s best defence agaist Carbon Dioxide is the tree. More the better. Plant tree, more so which corresponds with the local environment. Take help of government agencies and NGOs who specialize in the field and plant trees. Create occassions around days when this can be done.
22 April Earth Day This day is celebrated with the intention of drawing attention towards what we humans have done for Mother Earth and what needs to be done further World over this day is treated with a lot of significance. In India too, we ought to take this seriously and start a dialogue on where we are headed and how best we can turn the situation around.

This day should have serious discussion about all the nuclear accidents that have taken place the world over and how best to stop or mitigate them for humanity’s sake.
16 September World Ozone Day Ozone as we are all aware is the layer of gases in the upper atmosphere which filters out all the harmful rays including UV rays of the sun. It is the unseen umbrella under which the entire earth and all its inhabitants, plant or animal exist.  This day is celeberated to understand its significance and pledge to keep it intact for humanity’s sake It should ideally be a day for deep introspection on the part of everyone, especially young citizens to understand what the environment is all about, how it affects life and ways and steps to be taken to keep the ozone layer in top shape for all times to come.
